South Carolina Honors College students have a strong record of acceptance at medical schools throughout South Carolina and across the nation. In addition to the University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and the Medical University of South Carolina, Honors students have been accepted to institutions including Duke, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Vanderbilt, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, New York University and many others.

Preparing Students for Success

Our students begin with a strong academic foundation. Their SAT and ACT scores are competitive with those of students at many Ivy League institutions. The Honors College builds on that foundation through personalized advising, small classes taught by research-active faculty, and meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom.  Equally important is the collaborative Honors pre-med community, where collaboration, not competition, is the norm. Students also benefit from dedicated pre-health resources and support that help them become career-ready, including access to healthcare professionals across a variety of fields and guidance in developing competitive applications for internships, shadowing experiences and graduate and professional programs.

What Classes Will I Take? 

Honors advisors assist  students with choosing a course of study that suits their goals. Students who wish to attend a particular medical, dental or veterinary school should check specific requirements with the institution. In general, pre-medicine students need a year of college-level biology with labs, a year of introductory chemistry, a year of organic chemistry and a year of physics.

Accelerated Undergraduate to M.D. Program

The South Carolina Honors College and the USC Floyd School of Medicine offer an innovative “fast track” program for Honors students who seek a medical degree. Named “Accelerated Undergraduate to M.D. Program” for the two degrees it awards, this combined and accelerated program enables you to receive your undergraduate degree from the South Carolina Honors College, followed by your medical degree from the Floyd School of Medicine.

South Carolina Honors College to Greenville M.D. Program

The South Carolina Honors College to Greenville M.D. Program is solely accessible to Honors students. The program allows Rising South Carolina Honors College juniors who have fulfilled the requirements of their initial two years of undergraduate studies to apply for early admission to the USC School of Medicine-Greenville. Among the many benefits, no MCAT is required.
