Using Cocky illustrations

Cocky is a protected trademark of the University of South Carolina. To preserve the integrity and consistency of his likeness, only approved Cocky artwork should be used in university communications.

  • Use the provided artwork as-is. Do not redraw, alter, distort or modify Cocky’s appearance.
  • Do not use generative AI to create, recreate or modify Cocky or other university trademarks.
  • These files are intended for small-scale digital communications, such as social media graphics and other digital content.
  • Do not use these illustrations for merchandise, apparel, promotional products, signage, large-scale displays or other commercial applications without prior approval from the Trademark Licensing Office.
  • Cocky illustrations should be used as a supporting graphic element and should not replace an official university logo or unit mark.

Considerations

When using Cocky illustrations, consider the audience, context and prominence of the application. These files are intended to give university communicators an approved option for adding Cocky to everyday digital content, not to serve as a substitute for official university marks or custom artwork.

  • Keep it small-scale. Appropriate uses include organic social media content, digital graphics and similar everyday communications. Large-format, highly visible or long-term applications may require additional review.
  • Give the artwork room to work. Avoid crowding Cocky with text, logos or other graphic elements, and do not crop the illustration in a way that significantly changes the artwork.
  • When in doubt, ask. If your project falls outside routine digital communications or you are unsure whether an application is appropriate, please contact us.
