Making History Since 1801

When the University of South Carolina opened its doors in 1801, it became one of the nation’s first public universities. A place founded on the conviction that education isn’t just personal advancement, it’s a means to elevating an entire state and its citizens.

It’s a story of how a single building on the Horseshoe became a statewide educational system. And a handful of founding students that grew into more than 380,000 alumni who have gone on to lead, discover and serve. See how we’ve been making history since 1801.
